Weekly Message - March 30-April 3
Dear Parents, with the lengthening days and the early hints of spring, we're reminded of the warmer weather to come. We've had a busy and productive period, and now, it's time for a refreshing break. Please note that school will be closed for spring break from Saturday, March 21 through Sunday, March 29. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, March 30.
Bike Club Wrap-Up
This week, our Bike Club finished up. Our students took part in the Earn-a-Bike program run by Two Wheel View, a local non-profit here in Calgary. Over the past 10 weeks, students learned how to fix and maintain bikes, work as a team, and built confidence along the way. At the end of the program, each student who completed it earned their very own bike to keep.
We are proud of every student who participated in the club. A big thank you to Two Wheel View for bringing this program to our school. If you want to learn more about the work they do, visit twowheelview.org.
Badminton Season – Tryout Schedule
Badminton begins immediately after spring break. The tryout schedule is as follows:
March 30: Gr 9 AM & Gr 8 PM
March 31: Gr 7 AM & Gr 6 PM
Aprils 1: Gr 8 AM & Gr 9 PM

School Council – Annual General Meeting
The AGM for our school council and parent association will be held next month on Wednesday, April 22 at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.
The AGM is the meeting where new council members are elected. The council provides invaluable support to various events and activities throughout the school year. For example, weekly fun lunches wouldn’t happen without the council and volunteers organizing and serving the orders. Field trips throughout the year are supported by financial contributions to pay for busing. A variety of purchases are made to support classrooms including laptop carts, art equipment, sports equipment, and learning software subscriptions.
Every school faces the same challenges recruiting council members and each year, as students move on to high school, their parents go with them, and this year is no exception. We know that we will be looking for more parent support as key council members move on. The time commitment for council members is not too great; we meet eight times a year, and all work is shared by a team to lighten the load.
If you are interested in supporting your child as a member of school council or parent association, please reach out to Nancy Wong, Council Chair, at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com and April Boutin, Association Chair at parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.
2025-2026 Yearbook Purchase
The CNGS 2025-2026 is now available for purchase! The deadline to purchase is Wednesday, April 15. Purchases can be made from MyCBE parent accounts under School Based Optional Fees which is the tab on the right side of the screen when accessing the School Fees and Forms in MyCBE. Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays
Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.
We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please sign up here. Please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Class Assignments and Requests – Final week for submissions
This is the last week for submitting class requests for the next school year. Creating balanced and supportive class groups is a priority each year to ensure every student thrives. We value parent perspectives and welcome your input in this process. If you have a specific educational request regarding your child's class placement for next year, please submit it via this online form. We do our best to honour parent requests, but the school retains the final decision on class assignments.
