Weekly Message - November 24-28

As we head into the last week of November, here are a few important updates about conferences, upcoming events, and year-end activities.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences take place next week on November 27 and 28. Thursday is a regular school day with dismissal at 2:45 pm. There are no classes for students on Friday, November 28. Both Thursday evening and Friday conferences will be held in person.

Conferences run from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, then from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Friday. Meetings will take place in classrooms to give each conversation a bit more privacy. Each booking is ten minutes. If you feel you’ll need more time, teachers are happy to continue the conversation on a different day, either in person or by phone.

Conference booking opens at 8:00 am on Monday, November 24 through MyCBE

Scholastic Book Fair – December 8-12

We couldn’t schedule the Scholastic Book Fair to line up with Parent-Teacher Interviews this year, but students will have full access to browse and shop from December 8 to 12. The fair brings a great selection of new and popular titles, along with some fun gift ideas. It’s also an important fundraiser that helps us add new literacy resources to our school.

Thank you for supporting our readers and our library program.

School Council

All parents and guardians are welcome at our School Council meetings. It’s a good way to learn what’s happening at the school, hear how parents can support student learning, and help decide how fundraising dollars are used.

Our upcoming meetings are on January 21, February 25, April 15 (our AGM), and May 13. All meetings start at 6:30 p.m. at the school.

We also have a few executive roles to fill:

Council and Association Secretary

Takes accurate minutes at meetings and organizes council and association records, correspondence, and communications.

Association Vice Chair

Supports the Chair as needed and leads meetings when the Chair can’t attend.

If you’re open to helping out or want to learn more, please reach out at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com or parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com

You can also stay connected by joining the “Parents of CNGS Students” group on Facebook.

Annual Winter Activity Day

Teachers are preparing information sheets for each Activity Day trip. Over the next couple of weeks, students should visit the information board outside the main gym to make sure they have everything they need for their chosen activity. The board will be ready for Parent Teacher Conferences, so families can take a look when they’re in the building. It’s located in the main hallway between the main and auxiliary gyms.

We are also looking for volunteers. These trips need a lot of adult supervision, and we’d love your help. If you’re interested in joining your child’s trip, have them pick up a volunteer form from the office. Not sure if you’re already cleared as a volunteer? A quick call to the main office can confirm.

Basketball Season Ending

Our basketball teams are heading into their final games of this shortened and unusual season. We want to wish all athletes the best of luck and thank them for the character, teamwork, and adaptability they’ve shown throughout.
