Weekly Message - March 16-20

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's update! As we approach the end of March, things are certainly busy here at Captain Nichola Goddard School. Spring break is on the horizon, and our exciting volleyball season is coming to an end.

Spring Break – Saturday, March 23-Sunday, March 30

Spring break is quickly approaching and the school will be closed from Saturday, March 21 until Sunday, March 29. Classes will resume on Monday, March 30.

School Council – Annual General Meeting (Date Change)

Due to a scheduling conflict, the AGM for our school council and parent association will be held next month but has moved to Wednesday, April 22 at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.

The AGM is the meeting where new council members are elected. Every school faces the same challenges recruiting council members. Our school is extremely lucky to have a dedicated group of parents who have been working hard to support the school. The council provides invaluable support to various events and activities throughout the school year. For example, weekly fun lunches wouldn’t happen without the council and volunteers organizing and serving the orders. Field trips throughout the year are supported by financial contributions to pay for busing. A variety of purchases are made to support classrooms including our portable stage, laptop carts, art equipment, sports equipment, and learning software subscriptions.

Each year, as students move on to high school, their parents go with them, and this year is no exception. We know that next year we will be looking for more parent support as some council members move on. The time commitment for council members is not too demanding; we meet eight times a year and all work is shared by a team to lighten the load.

If you are interested in supporting your child as a member of school council or parent association please reach out to Nancy Wong, Council Chair, at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com and April Boutin, Association Chair at parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.

2025-2026 Yearbook Purchase

The CNGS 2025-2026 is now available for purchase! The deadline to purchase is Wednesday, April 15. Purchases can be made from MyCBE parent accounts under School Based Optional Fees which is the tab on the right side of the screen when accessing the School Fees and Forms in MyCBE.

Parent Teacher Conferences – Online & In-Person Conferences

As previously announced, our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for April. The conferences will be a combination of online and in-person interviews. The first date is Friday, April 17 and will be online interviews from 12:30-3:30pm. The second date for interviews will be the following Thursday, April 23, and will be in-person from 4:00-8:00pm. The online booking system for these conferences is found at MyCBE and will open for bookings in the second week of April.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.

We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com

2026-27 Class Placements and Requests – Online submissions

Creating balanced and supportive class groups is a priority each year to ensure every student thrives. We welcome your input in this process, so if you have a specific educational request regarding your child's class placement for next year, please submit it via our online form. We value parent perspectives, but the school retains the final decision on class assignments. At times, adjustments may be necessary due to enrollment or student dynamics.   Additionally, if your child will be transferring to another school for the 2026-2027 academic year, please notify the office at (403) 817-3300 to ensure a smooth transition.
