Weekly Message - February 2-6
Traffic Safety
There has been a recent increase in unsafe driving practices before and after school including parents dropping students off in the school parking lot, students jaywalking, double parking, and U-turns. Student safety is jeopardized by these practices so please consider slowing down and dropping students off in a safe location away from the front of the school. This will help you avoid the congestion that occurs each school day and keeps all students safe.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.
School Calendar for 2026-27 is now available
The 2026-27 school calendar has been finalized and posted on the main CBE website.
The first day of school for students is Monday, August 31, and the calendar includes a minimum of 181 instructional days and 10 system-wide days for schools to schedule parent-teacher conferences, professional development, and other organizational days.
The annual holiday breaks are November 11-15 for Fall Break, December 19-January 3 for Winter Break, and March 20-29 for Spring Break
Please visit the Instructional Calendar Explanation page for more information about how the calendar is structured.
High School Transfer Process
The high school transfer process will soon open for grade nine families considering programs or courses not offered at their designated high school. The transfer window is February 9-March 15. Information about the process along with timelines can be found on the CBE website.
The online registration system will limit the viewable transfer options to only those that are Open or Limited status for the purpose of accepting transfers. Exceptions to this rule are the programs of choice: Performing and Visual Arts (PVA), High Performance Athlete Development (HPAD) and International Baccalaureate (IB).
Phoenix Fan Policy
Reminder to all our CNGS fans that we need to be positive representatives of our school at games. Cheering for our teams shows support and an excellent school community. It is not acceptable to ever cheer against the visiting team or make negative comments about them; this behaviour goes against our expectations as a school. All the athletes competing are students doing their best to represent their school and making others feel unwelcome will not be tolerated. Please also be considerate of the families that have come to watch and how your actions and words are affecting people who don’t necessarily know you.
Just like CNGS, other schools have visiting fan policies: no one should be travelling to another school to watch unless they have an adult with them the entire time. Our athletes sign paperwork that allows them to be there with their coach but other CNGS students cannot be unsupervised at other schools.
CNGS READS – Is back starting this week!
CNGS Reads is a reading club that offers challenges, competitions, and prizes! And best of all…REALLY GOOD BOOKS! CNGS Reads gives students access to an exclusive list of books from all different genres that they get to test out and review before they hit the shelves of our library.
Any reader who reads 10 books will be entered to win a $100 gift card of their choice. All students welcome! Meetings TBD!
