Weekly Message - March 9-13

As we head into March, there is a lot happening at CNGS. Volleyball playoffs are underway, student teachers have joined several classrooms, and we are beginning to prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 school year. With Daylight Saving Time arriving this weekend and Spring Break not far away, this is a good time to check the updates and reminders in this week’s message.

Daylight Savings – Don't forget to adjust the clocks

It might not look like it right now, but spring is coming. We are moving into the spring-time portion of Daylight Saving Time by setting our clocks forward by one hour and extending daylight into the evening hours. This change happens on the second Sunday in March. For 2026, that is this weekend with clocks officially adjusted between 2:00-3:00am on Sunday, March 8th.

Student Teachers

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful group of student teachers from the University of Calgary working with us for their final practicum before graduation. These aspiring educators are completing their final practicum before graduation, and we're thrilled to have them join our classrooms. Mr. Lam is working alongside Mrs. MacPherson-Levesque, Ms. Noseworthy with Mr. Pullan, Ms. Singh with Mrs. Oakes, Ms. Tazeem with Mrs. Osicki,  and Ms. Zaparniuk with Ms. Roefs. We appreciate their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm that enrich the learning experience for our students, and we appreciate your support in welcoming them to our school community.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.

We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please sign up here. Please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Next Year Planning – 2026-27 School Year

Due to the ongoing surge in Calgary Board of Education (CBE) enrollment, Captain Nichola Goddard School will maintain its Closed status next year. This designation signifies that the school has reached or surpassed its student capacity, limiting us from accepting transfer students residing outside of our designated attendance area. However, we remain committed to serving families within the Panorama Hills community. For those living outside Panorama Hills, please utilize the CBE's Find A School tool on their website to determine your child's designated school.

Class Assignments and Requests – Online submissions

Creating balanced and supportive class groups is a priority each year to ensure every student thrives. We welcome your input in this process, so if you have a specific educational request regarding your child's class placement for next year, please submit it via our online form. While we value parent perspectives, the school retains the final decision on class assignments. We strive to maintain existing grade cohorts, particularly for transitions from grade six to seven and grade eight to nine. At times, adjustments may be necessary due to enrollment or student dynamics. Please complete the online form to submit any educational requests. Additionally, if your child will be transferring to another school for the 2025-2026 academic year, please notify the office at (403) 817-3300 to ensure a smooth transition.

School Council Annual General Meeting – April 15

Mark your calendars! Our April School Council meeting, which also serves as our Annual General Meeting, will take place on Wednesday, April 15th. A key focus of this meeting will be electing our council and association members for the upcoming year. We currently have several vacant representative positions, and we're actively seeking parents who are interested in contributing to our school community. Your participation on the council would be immensely valuable. We will be sharing further details in the coming weeks, and we sincerely hope you'll consider joining us in supporting our school through council or the parents' association. For any inquiries, please don't hesitate to contact Nancy Wong at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com or April Boutin at parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.
